Born in Japan and raised in the US, Europe and Asia, Monique Atherton is a Connecticut based artist working primarily in the medium of photography. Monique uses photographs to depict the uncanniness of microcosms. Her ambiguous narratives allude to unspoken desires, tensions and unresolved moments . Monique has a post-baccalaureate degree in photography from the San Francisco Art Institute and has also studied at the School of Visual Arts and International Center of Photography in New York. In 2013 she spent four months as a resident at the Wassaic Project in upstate New York. Her work has been shown in Washington, DC, San Francisco, Seattle, Bangladesh and New York.
